Austin SCBWI is excited to introduce a new promotional opportunity for its members, a local reading challenge that will get kids reading and librarians and parents sharing your books with the kids they know.
Here’s how it works:
Austin SCBWI will create a poster and web page gallery with a list of member books under picture books and novels. The list will be promoted to librarians, schools, book clubs and parents to share with young readers. Readers who read the most books will be eligible to win prizes — AND the libraries who have the most readers in the challenge will also win prizes. Read. Fun. Win.
The challenge will run throughout 2019.
Depending on budget, Austin SCBWI will promote the challenge in multiple ways, potentially including…
- * Social media
- * Delivering posters to libraries
- * Booth at TLA
- * Booth at Texas Book Festival
- * Signings at bookstores
The challenge is open to PAL SCBWI members only. We need to make sure the books on the list are readily available to libraries and book clubs.
Author or illustrators may register 1 book for the list.
Each book must have been in print and published in the last 3 years.
Author and illustrators in the program will pay a $30 fee to help the chapter cover costs.
Authors and illustrators in the program will participate in the organization and promotion of the challenge. We have separated the tasks into small groups, and everyone will be assigned something. When you register, you may ask for a specific task, but we can not guarantee your assignment. Tasks include collecting addresses and contact names for libraries, delivering posters to libraries, collecting book information, compiling reader responses, etc.
Authors and illustrators will offer libraries a 10% discount on 1 (one) author visit. Librarians will be given a code to redeem this discount. (Please note: Authors and illustrators will not be required to do any author visits or to charge any particular rates, only to honor the 10% discount for 1 session if a session is booked with the code. Austin SCBWI will not be a go-between for librarians and authors or illustrators. All author visit bookings will be setup separately from this program.)
To registration, fill out the form here.
Registration closes Friday, Nov. 30.
