Illustrator Coordinator Scholarship

Illustrator Coordinator Scholarship
The Austin SCBWI IC (Illustrator Coordinator) Scholarship is new this year!  It will be awarded to an illustrator who is interested and excited to pursue a career in children’s book illustration.  It’s designed to help the winner navigate this industry and to learn and grow as an illustrator. See details below and apply through this form.

The recipient receives:
* Full scholarship to our annual conference to be held in person April 29-30, 2023.  Includes admission to the conference’s Portfolio Showcase – participating in the showcase is optional.  (Scholarship does not include critiques, pitch/consultation, or travel expenses).

*One year membership to SCBWI (or a membership extension if the recipient is already a member)

* Illustration and publishing questions answered as time permits during 2023 by the Austin IC (illustrator coordinator) Laura Fisk.

Please note: This scholarship does not include critiques because we don’t want to put pressure on the illustrator to perform at a certain level. Our aim is to encourage, lift and guide the illustrator, so they can have a step in the right direction.

Eligibility
Members and non-members in Texas are eligible. Pre-published, unagented illustrators only, please.   The scholarship is geared towards those starting out in their career in children’s book illustration and wouldn’t be able to attend the conference, or it would be a struggle to cover the costs otherwise.

Submission Instructions
Please submit via this form. If you have any questions or have issues with the submission form, please email Austin-ic @ scbwi.org (remove the spaces around the @).

You will be asked to answer a few questions about your interest in illustration and to upload either your illustration website or 3 samples of your artwork.   Your illustrations do not necessarily need to be works specific to children’s book illustration, but just what you consider your best current work, though do keep in mind that the work should stay PG.   Please name your files firstname-lastname-number (e.g. sandra-boynton-1.jpg) and should either be a jpg or pdf.  Files should not  exceed more than 3 mgs per image.

Application deadline is February 28th, 2023.

Scholarship winners may not be announced before conference registration opens. If you want a critique at the conference, you should register early. If you don’t win and can’t pay for the conference on your own, you will be given a full refund.
