More and more authors are finding agents through unconventional methods like online pitch contests, twitter, blogs, and other social media platforms. In this talk, we’ll explore both the traditional methods, like query letters, but also discuss the many new and exciting ways to successfully find and pitch an agent.

If you can't make the webinar live, still register before the webinar date so you can get access to the recording. Registered attendees will be able to view the recording for 1 month after the webinar date.

The webinar costs $10 for SCBWI, $35 for non-members. SCBWI members, login to get the discounted price. If you aren't a member, click here for more information on the many benefits of being part of our community.

Carrie Howland joined Empire Literary after eleven years as an agent at Donadio & Olson, Inc. She represents young adult, middle grade, and select picture book authors. Carrie’s background is in poetry, so beautiful language is one of the first things she looks for in any project. Also important are a strong voice and great story, which she’s looking for across genres.

Carrie is a member of the AAR as well as SCBWI. She holds a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Albion College.

In her spare time, Carrie volunteers as a foster for a local dog rescue and with deployed military men and women through an organization called Soldiers’ Angels. She is an active volunteer and member of the New York Junior League, through which she teaches a third grade art class once a week, as well as a member of the executive board of the New York City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Gamma. You can follow Carrie on twitter at @ecarriehowland or visit www.empireliterary.com for more information.

Carrie is also offering to do a limited number of written critiques of query letters after the webinar. Critiques cost $15 and are NOT included in the webinar. If you would like a critique, choose that option when you register. NOTE: Critiques are not for the purpose of submitting your work for consideration of representation. Critiques are to give you feedback so you can make your query letter shine before you send it out to agents. If you would like to submit your work to Carrie Howland for representation, you may do that separately from the critique.

Critique pages must be submitted during the week between May 1 and May 7. This gives you time after the webinar to revise based on what you learned. Written feedback from Carrie will be emailed to you within 2 months. See our webinar critique guidelines for more information on submitting pages.

For those of you attending the Austin SCBWI 2017 Writers & Illustrators Working Conference, this will give you enough time revise your query before submitting to the agents and editors from the conference.
