Calling artists & writers…
Picture book author Charlotte Sullivan Wild celebrates the essential role of play in our creative practice. She’ll share how a playful class with author Stephanie Watson inspired her debut picture book, THE AMAZING IDEA OF YOU.
Next, roll up your sleeves for some serious play time! Mess with old projects in new ways. Create new material that might grow into something… amazing! You’ll learn techniques that use words and lines, pictures and glue–whatever it takes to play your way into new inspiration and insight into your work! You’ll leave with new activities to carry into your creative practice.
Charlotte Sullivan Wild is the author of the picture book THE AMAZING IDEA OF YOU, illustrated by Mary Lundquist (Bloomsbury, 2019). She served as the Regional Advisor for the Southwest Texas chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators; founding host of the Picture Book Salon of San Antonio, Texas; and bookseller at The Twig Book Shop. She previously taught children’s literature for nearly two decades, volunteered in public and school libraries, and interviewed children’s authors for Write On! Radio (KFAI). Originally from frosty Minnesota, she now lives in sunny Texas — but not for long. Soon after her farewell workshop with Austin SCBWI, she is headed overseas for her next adventure. She is represented by Minju Chang of BookStop Literary Agency.
The monthly meeting will be immediately followed by an Open Critique Group for SCBWI members.
