Monthly Meeting – The SWEET SPOT: Writing Chapter Books that are “Just Right” for young readers with Author Christina Soontornvat, plus Crystal Kite Award presentation

Chapter books can be a child’s most beloved books, and are often what gets kids “hooked” on reading. But writing chapter books that captivate your target audience can be tricky: even though the books are a fraction of a novel’s word count, they still need to pack all the wonder and emotion of a longer book.

Christina Soontornvat, author of the DIARY OF AN ICE PRINCESS series (July 2019, Scholastic) will share all the tips and tricks she has learned about tone, voice, length, and subject matter to help you craft memorable chapter books.

We will close the meeting by awarding the 2019 Crystal Kite Award to Samantha M Clark for her novel, THE BOY, THE BOAT, and THE BEAST and celebrate with a short reception.
