Cynthia Levinson: Spinning a Yarn While Telling the Truth: How to Ask the Questions that Reveal the Story
Interviewing experts can clarify the facts about your subject. But to tell a story, you also need its heart and soul. This session will share tips and examples on how respectful probing can elicit the telling details.
11-11:50 – General session
Greg Leitich Smith: How to Unearth What You Know, Don't Know, and Don't Know You Don't Know to Develop Story and Character
Greg Leitich Smith will present tips on researching, and when and how to seamlessly integrate the fruits of your research into your novels, avoiding the infodump and dialog-of-great-explanation, and creating believable characters who might nevertheless possess esoteric knowledge.
