With Austin SCBWI turning 20 this year, our 2016 Writers & Illustrators Working Conference is even bigger and better, with more general sessions; six breakouts including an illustrator track, a professional development track and two writer tracks; as well as three intensive tracks on Sunday (for illustration, picture book writing and novel writing), each including a three-hour morning intensive and two-hour afternoon intensive.

Plus, there will be opportunities to have your work critiqued by fantastic authors and illustrators, editors and agents, and to pitch your work to agents and editors; the Portfolio Showcase and plenty of time to network and make new friends.

Our wonderful faculty is bigger too, to serve out even more wisdom and inspiration. Here's the lineup:

Read full bios of all our faculty members here and get the conference schedule here. Check out highlights from our 2015 conference.

Writers, you may purchase one (1) critique with an agent or editor and/or multiple critiques with our faculty authors. You may also purchase one (1) pitch with an agent or editor. (Note that critiques will only be on Saturday and pitches will only be on Sunday.) Before you register, we strongly recommend that you read the faculty bios, which include details about which genres each faculty member critiques as well as their critiquing style.

Illustrators, you may purchase portfolio reviews with our art director and/or illustrators. Please note that Schwartz & Wade/Random House Assistant Editor Stephanie Wade and agent Marietta B. Zacker are also critiquing picture book dummies, and Marietta is also critiquing portfolios, but you must register for these under the Agent/Editor Critique section. Before you register, we strongly recommend that you read the faculty bios, which include details about each member's critiquing style.

Austin SCBWI is a non-profit run by volunteers and we are dedicated to providing quality, affordable programming. To help us with our mission, please consider donating to our Silent Auction. Choose the option under the Tell Us About You section in the registration below.

NOTE: Please note that there is a bug in the registration retrieval system. It's being worked on, but until it's fixed, any extras that you signed up for on waitlist will show up as confirmed on your registration. If a critique was on waitlist when you signed up for it, you are still on the waitlist, even if your registration shows that you are confirmed. If you're unsure, please email Austin SCBWI Regional Advisor Samantha Clark at
