Portfolio Showcase
The Portfolio Showcase offers illustrators a chance to display their work to faculty and conference attendees. Portfolios will be on display March 7, open for viewing by all conference attendees and faculty. Portfolios in the Showcase are eligible for awards, the winners of which will be announced at the end of the day. Entrants to the Showcase can also sign up for the Emerging Voice Illustrator Mentorship at registration.
To be included in the Portfolio Showcase, you must sign up for it when you register for the conference. There is a $5 fee. When you sign up, you are automatically entered into the judging for the Showcase winners. If you do NOT want to be included in the judging, please check that box in your registration. If you have already registered for the conference and would like to add the Showcase to your registration (or sign up to be considered for the Emerging Voice Illustrator Mentorship), please email Illustration Coordinator Amy Farrier.
A jury of industry professionals will select the Grand Prize Winner and two Honors Winners. The Grand Prize Winner will receive a year's membership to SCBWI, a $50 art supply gift certificate and the opportunity to design the SCBWI Austin website banner. That illustrated banner will be on display on Austin.SCBWI.org and the Austin SCBWI enewsletter for the following year and made into t-shirts, mugs and buttons as a fund-raiser for the chapter. The winning illustrator will be promoted along with their artwork, including links to their website. The two Honors Winners will receive gift certificates to an art supply store.
Portfolio Guidelines
Should be a standard format, which can lay flat on the display table and be no wider than 29" when opened (interior page sizes from 8”x10”-11”x14”). For liability reasons, no electronic portfolios, such as iPads, will be allowed as part of the showcase. If you only bring an electronic portfolio, it will not be displayed and your reservation fee will not be refunded.
Should contain no more than 10-15 representational pieces of your BEST artwork and any dummies or sketchbooks that you may wish to show. If you are bringing a book dummy, remember to attach it somehow to your portfolio.
Any promotional postcards or business cards will be placed alongside the illustrator’s portfolio. Please, no boxes or fancy/three dimensional set ups at this time.
Please make sure your name is included in your portfolio.
Do not bring copies of published books. If you want to include published work, put the artwork in your portfolio. Published books will not be allowed in the Showcase.
Remember NO ORIGINAL ARTWORK should be included in your portfolio. Have high-quality color copies of your art in your portfolio instead.
Portfolio drop-off will be from 8-8:45am on Saturday, Mar 7. The winners of the Showcase and Emerging Voice Mentorship will be announced during closing announcements.
