Congratulations to Austin SCBWI member Susan Kralovansky, who has been honored by the prestigious International Latino Book Awards, the largest awards in the country celebrating Latinx literature! Her picture book, The Book That Jake Borrowed / El libro que Jake tomo prestado, was named one of just two finalists in the category of “Best Children’s Fiction Picture Book – Bilingual.” The story is a cumulative tale about an escalating series of hilarious misfortunes surrounding an ill-fated library book. Susan has explained the process of creating a bilingual edition of her picture book in an earlier news post.
“Every fall librarians begin the year with book-care lessons. The original book – The Book That Jake Borrowed – has been extremely popular with librarians, and I love the fact that now students have the ability to enjoy this bilingual version of the book.”
The award winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Oct. 16th and 17th.
