Welcome New Illustrator Coordinator Laura Fisk

Austin SCBWI says a big WELCOME to a new Illustrator Coordinator this month. Laura Fisk will be taking over for Rivkah LaFille, after Rivkah’s move out of state.

Rivkah said of the changeover: “Serving as Illustrator Coordinator for our wonderful community of illustrators through a pandemic has had its ups and downs, but the greatest part of it was the opportunity to hold digital hands as we take this ride together. As I move on to the next stage of my life, half a country away, I want to say that you folks ARE IN GREAT HANDS. Laura Fisk has the level of passion, enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment that our community needs to see our illustrators through the rest of this pandemic and hopefully, one day, back in person again. I will miss having the privilege of helping our community through this difficult time, but I know that we can make it and that with Laura at the helm, we will thrive.”

Laura has been a valued member of our chapter for years, volunteering and speaking. While we’re sad to lose Rivkah as our IC, we’re very excited that Laura can take on this role.

Laura said of her taking on the role: “I have grown so much as an illustrator since joining SCBWI, and it has given me a path forward in illustration and a community that I truly connect with so much and have learned so much from. Because of this, I wanted to give back and continue building and growing our community.”

A big THANK YOU to Rivkah and Laura for helping our illustrators continue to shine.

And although Rivkah is living far away, we’re thrilled that she’ll still join us digitally for meetings, sketch nights and Kidlit Comics Club when she can. (See our events listing for more on these.)
