Congratulations to Austin SCBWI member Marit Weisenberg, who just signed a deal for her fourth YA novel, THIS GOLDEN STATE! The deal was brokered by Kerry Sparks at Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency.
The novel features a restless teenager whose family is on the run. According to the Publishers Weekly announcement, “[w]hen Poppy takes a home DNA test, she not only unravels the truth of her parents’ identities, but also undoes decades of careful work to keep her family anonymous—and finds that the past is dangerously close to catching up to them.”
“This book will always be special to me because I finished the first draft during the early months of Covid,” Marit says. “I had to pull myself away from the news and keep pushing. It was hard to focus (especially with more people suddenly home during the day) and it was also a relief to have something to focus on. THIS GOLDEN STATE is inspired by a few of my disparate obsessions: DNA home test kits upending privacy, the Patty Hearst kidnapping, and my memories of where I grew up in California before it became Silicon Valley of today.”
The novel is scheduled for release by Flatiron Books in winter, 2022.
