Jenny Elder Moke releases debut and sells second YA novel

Author portrait of Jenny Elder Moke seated on stairs in front of a doorway.Congratulations to Austin SCBWI member Jenny Elder Moke, who in the past month released one novel and sold another!

Her debut novel, Hood, a YA historical adventure that reimagines the story of Robin Hood through the perspective of his daughter Isabelle, was published by Disney-Hyperion on June 9th. It has garnered a starred review from School Library Journal and is a Fall 2020 Junior Library Guild selection.

Jenny has also just sold her second novel, Curse of the Specter Queen, to Disney-Hyperion; the deal was brokered by agent Elizabeth Bewley. The YA novel, planned for a June, 2021 release, follows a teenage rare-book lover named Samantha who must embark on a globetrotting adventure to save the world from an ancient Celtic curse. On top of the book deal, Jenny has tantalizingly revealed that there is “other really exciting news related to that project that I can’t share yet.”

Cover of "Hood," featuring a bow and arrow (the arrow is piercing the D in "Hood") against a dark green background and the words, "One girl. One shot. A legend in the making."On the heels of these successes, Jenny has some advice. “I encourage people to explore ALL avenues available to them (while being respectful of other people’s time and boundaries, of course). I queried for years without success, and it wasn’t until I participated in a Twitter pitch competition that I found my agent. So if what you’re doing isn’t giving you the results you want, don’t be afraid to pivot and try something new.”
