Austin Member Wins Crystal Kite for 2nd Consecutive Year

The Boy, The Boat, and The Beast by Samantha M ClarkAustin SCBWI has a Crystal Kite winner in its chapter for the second consecutive year!

Middle-grade novel THE BOY, THE BOAT, AND THE BEAST by Samantha M Clark won the 2019 Crystal Kite Award for the Texas/Oklahoma region. Samantha is also the RA of the chapter!

The book was published by Paula Wiseman Books/Simon & Schuster with editor Sarah Jane Abbott, who was just at our 2019 Writers & Illustrators Working Conference.

Austin SCBWI member books THE PARKER INHERITANCE by Varian Johnson and WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A VOICE LIKE THAT? THE STORY OF EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESSWOMAN BARBARA JORDAN written by Chris Barton also were finalists.

A book by an Austin SCBWI member also won last year, THE YOUNGEST MARCHER written by Cynthia Levinson.

Other past Austin SCBWI Crystal Kite Award winners include POET: THE REMARKABLE STORY OF GEORGE MOSES HORTON written and illustrated by Don Tate in 2016 and MINE! illustrated by Patrice Barton in 2013.
