What attracted you to children’s books?

Their heart. Children’s books focus on the basic, beautiful truths about ourselves and our world.

What’s the best part of your job?

Meeting intriguing people — both real and fictional.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Sometimes it’s difficult existing in two realms — real life and the world you are creating. It can be exhausting and demanding and, let’s face it, make you weird.

What’s the best piece of advice you were given that helped drive your career?

You don’t need to sit down and write for long periods of time in order to progress on a project. Sometimes a less overwhelming goal — such as a page a day — can help keep you focused.

Come see Jennifer at the 2018 Austin SCBWI conference, April 28-29, 2018
