Meet the faculty of the 2015 Austin SCBWI Writers & Illustrators Working Conference. We've asked all our faculty members to answer 4 quick questions so we can get to know them better.
Next in the series is Cory Putman Oakes.
Cory Putman Oakes is a children's book author from Austin, Texas. Her first book, THE VEIL, a young adult fantasy, was published in 2011. Cory’s middle grade debut, DINOSAUR BOY, about a boy who is part stegosaurus, comes out in February 2015. DINOSAUR BOY SAVES MARS (the second book in the Dinosaur Boy series) is due out in February 2016.
Cory is a former lawyer and when she's not writing, she enjoys cooking, running, and hanging out with her husband, Mark, and their two small kiddos.
What attracted you to children’s books?
I’ve been reading them steadily since I was a child. I hope I never grow out of it.
What’s the best part of your job?
Participating in the magical process that turns wacky, crazy ideas into actual books that people can hold in their hands and enjoy.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
What’s the best piece of advice you were given that helped drive your career?
Never to give up. Ever.
