Austin SCBWI's very own Marsha Riti is a Tribute Scholarship winner for the 2014 SCBWI Summer Conference in Los Angeles.
Each year SCBWI gives out Tribute Scholarships to both its Winter Conference in New York and its Summer Conference. Winners are treated to the full tuition cost as well as transportation and hotel for the four days of the event.
Winners are nominated by each chapter's Regional Advisor for their contributions to the chapter and work toward their career. Marsha has been very generous with her time and experience. A busy illustrator, Marsha was instrumental in the organization of the 2013 Fall Graphic Novel Workshop and helped Illustrator Coordinator Amy Farrier with securing the chapter's involvement in the WEST art show and Picture Book Day at Twin Oaks Library.
When the Austin chapter introduced Critiquenics and wanted to expand the Open Critique Group after the monthly meeting to have a more formal presence for illustrators, Marsha quickly volunteered. She continues to enthusiastically guide illustrators to improve their portfolios.
The other 2014 Summer Conference Tribute Winners are Avery Fischer from the Japan chapter, Gigi Orlowski from the San Diego chapter and Nancy Barnet from the Northen California chapter.
Marsha is the illustrator of the picture book THE PICKY LITTLE WITCH, written by Elizabeth Brokamp, and the chapter book series THE CRITTERS CLUB by Callie Barkley. She's also a co-founder and member of the female illustrator collective Girllustrators and won the Portfolio Contest at the 2014 Austin SCBWI Writers & Illustrators Working Conference in February.
